sunshine0221's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's Heartwarming! It's Heartwarming! When you are choosing friends, it is important to make sure that you have at least some interests that intersect. You don't have to be identically-thinking clones or anything, but you should have something in common. My friend J likes movies. So do I. The small town we live in has one movie theatre, and Open Water and Alien vs. Predator were the movies playing. So we decided to rent a movie. So far so good, right? Nope, because she likes cultural movies with British people talking and looking pained, and I like movies where things blow up and there is danger, and excitement, and at least 3 car crashes per hour. The last movie we saw together was Shakespeare in Love. I fell asleep and snored. J loved it. We decided that our only prayer for a mutually acceptable movie was a romance, a comedy, or a romantic comedy. Reneactment of our conversation at the video rental store: Me: "Ooohhh 13 Going on 30! We could see that. I've already seen it, but I don't mind seeing it again." J: "Mmmppprrphh" Me: "Okay then, how about Love Actually. I've really been wanting to see it." J: "Okay." Me:"It's by the same people who made Bridget Jones' Diary!" J: "I hated that movie. It was stupid. Let's find something else. How about this one? According to the box it's 'heartwarming'" Me: "I hate heartwarming. Heartwarming sucks, plus it probably has Meryl Streep in it right?" J: "Ummm, yeah." Me: "I knew it!! Meryl Streep is always in the heartwarming movies." J: "How about this one?" Me: (making gagging noises as I read the box) "It's sentimental! Sentimental is as bad as heartwarming except they have Holly Hunter instead of Meryl." J: "Okay. No heartwarming. No sentimental. Got it." Me: "And nothing even vaguely related to anyone who had anything to do with Bridget Jones. Got it." We ended up renting Sliding Doors which is one of the best movies that no one has seen, and we both enjoyed it immensely. 12:11 a.m. - August 30, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
