sunshine0221's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In My Humble Opinion In My Humble Opinion I think all couples should have to go on The Amazing Race before they get married. There is nothing like stress, sleep deprivation, competition, and the knowledge that if you screw up you have lost a million dollars to highlight the strengths, and more importantly, the weaknesses of your relationship. There are couples whose relationships are so strong that you would never know how much pressure they're under, and then there are couples who completely melt down when someone breaks a fingernail. And, of course, everything in between. On this week's episode, the fianc�e of a former POW honest-to-god told him that he used being captured and tortured as an excuse for getting out of his commitment to the military. Sweetie, he doesn�t have commitment issues, he has issues being committed to YOU. This is not a couple that should ever get married. Not ever. What made me think about all of this, is my father�s caretaker, Michelle. She is a bright, beautiful person with the world�s kindest heart � and her boyfriend is an abusive asshole. My spidey-sense went off a while back when Michelle was telling me how her boyfriend used to have anger management issues, but was getting help for them. Maybe people can change, but I personally have not seen violent, out-of-control, abusive people magically transforming into kind, considerate, gentle people � well, ever. Michelle�s job is to take care of old people. Who are sick, and many have Alzheimer�s and some are violent, and she loves her job. And she cares. And she puts up with my dad, which makes her a saint. She is truly a wonderful human being. Last week, Michelle called me with some Dad updates, and we got talking and she told me that she had to write up one of the women who works for her. And this woman had retaliated by calling Michelle�s house and leaving a message that Michelle was having an affair with her boyfriend. And then Michelle�s boyfriend heard the message and completely trashed the house. Destroyed the furniture and everything. And then here�s the kicker, Michelle told me that now she is working to win back her boyfriend�s trust. The hell???!! And I told her this emphatically too � she didn�t do anything wrong. Her boyfriend is an asshole. And now she is trying to win back his TRUST??!! Again - the hell??? So, back to my original point, if Michelle and her boyfriend went on The Amazing Race, the first time some tiny little thing went wrong, Boyfriend would flip out, get violent, hopefully get kicked off the show, and Michelle would end up in a relationship with a kind, wonderful man who watched the show and realized how great she is. In other news � got my hair cut last week and now I look like an 80�s Hair Band.
