I Got an Award for Nothing
Work has been very busy lately, and I have had to do a lot of prioritizing. I look through my mail quickly, and anything that isn’t of great importance gets tossed.
This is why, when a few weeks ago, I got an invitation from Vocational Rehabilitation saying I had won an award, I threw it out. First of all, I have not done anything with or for Vocational Rehabilitation. I have neither hired someone in need of Voc Rehab, nor am I personally in need of it myself.
A week or two after that, I got a call from my boss. He was at the Voc Rehab awards ceremony, and was summoning me to come. I pointed out that I had not actually done anything to win the award, plus I had a lot of things to do, but he insisted I go.
I was presented with the following award upon my arrival, and also, to my horror, got my picture taken for the local newspaper. I am now famous for getting an award for nothing.
My friend June emailed me today that she is using the picture of me from the paper as the desktop on her computer at work because I had a funny look on my face, and it cracked her up. I think when one is receiving an award for doing nothing, one is entitled to look a bit odd? That’s my theory anyway.
