sunshine0221's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Is It All In the Name? Is It All In the Name? One night last week Morris stayed out, and when he arrived back home he had boo-boo's on his nose and ear. I consulted with my resident cat expert, Kelly, on the subject, and she thinks the problem is his name. She suggested something more manly, such as Lance, or Jake, or Raoul. Now personally, I think anyone named Lance is way overcompensating, but that's just me. Spike also tends to whack Morris, so I really did give this some thought. Is it a coincidence that I named Spike after a vampire, and he's a bully that regularly chomps on Buffy's neck? Does the name make the cat? Just when I started to forget about the whole being-named-Morris-is-just-asking-to-get-beat-up theory, I took the M dude to the vet to get his ear looked at. And the vet said, as he was supergluing Morris's ear, "No wonder he's getting beat up. You named him Morris." Gah!!! Have I doomed my newest furperson to a life of getting beat up every day at recess because of what I named him? Morris is a perfectly good name. I named him after a very famous cat TV star whom he has an uncannny resemblance to. There are worse names out there. It's not like I named him Herbert, or Linus. A friend of mine's brother is named Enos. You KNOW his fellow grade-schoolers had fun with that one. And what about women named Mindy, or Tiffani? Yeah, they have a snowball's chance in hell of ever running a multi-million dollar corporation, but hey, there are other career options for those having cute girl's names that end in "i" or "y". Which I won't get into at the risk of sounding namist. *COUGH* Would you like fries with that? *COUGH*. [Note: Tahmi is excluded from the "i" names stereotype because she spells her name cool. If she spelled it Tammi, with a heart over the "i", she'd be a waitress.Oh and Kelly is a cool name - also totally excluded from the "y" group.] I've decided to leave Morris's name as it is. It fits him. And if things don't improve, I can always give him a really tough middle name, like Rambo. 4:33 p.m. - January 24, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
